1099 Tax Refund Calculator
Are you a 1099 worker wondering if you'll get a tax refund or owe money at tax time? This 1099 tax refund calculator estimates your total tax liability including self-employment tax and federal income tax, then factors in your quarterly payments and dependent credits to determine whether you'll receive a refund or have a balance due. Enter your 1099 income, business expenses, number of dependents, and estimated quarterly payments to see your projected tax outcome for 2026.
How This Calculation Works
Your net 1099 income is calculated by subtracting business expenses from gross income. Self-employment tax (15.3%) is applied to 92.35% of net income. Half of the SE tax is deducted before calculating federal income tax using 2026 progressive brackets. The Child Tax Credit ($2,000 per qualifying dependent under 17) is applied to reduce your total tax. Your four quarterly estimated payments are totaled and compared to your tax liability — if you've paid more than you owe, you'll receive a refund; if less, you'll have a balance due.
